BOSWELLIA / INGREDIENT RESEARCH

Brain swelling during radiotherapy for brain tumours

Potential benefit studied: Reduced cerebral oedema measured by MRI

Supporting research

Small randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial · Reviewed 9 September 2026

WHAT THE RESEARCH FOUND

A randomized placebo-controlled human trial found that boswellia reduced brain swelling during radiotherapy. Swelling fell by more than 75% in 60% of the boswellia group, compared with 26% of the placebo group.

WHO, WHAT & HOW LONG

Forty-four patients with primary or secondary malignant brain tumours received radiotherapy plus 4,200mg/day of Boswellia serrata or placebo. The primary endpoint compared MRI-measured oedema after treatment with its volume before treatment.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ROB’S CHOICE

The trial did not test Mobility, and its dose and extract cannot be equated with the retail formula. Brain swelling requires specialist care; these findings do not justify replacing prescribed steroids or cancer treatment.

The doses above describe research, not personal dosing instructions. Ingredient studies do not diagnose symptoms or establish medical suitability. Discuss medicines, existing conditions and treatment decisions with an appropriate healthcare professional.
