Rob represented South Africa in 19 Tests between 1980 and 1984. A Western Province loose forward, he played in the Springbok side that faced the British & Irish Lions in 1980 and toured New Zealand in 1981.
Rugby was one part of an active life. Surfing, squash and time outdoors have also featured in the experiences he has shared publicly.
Rob’s Springbok recordWhen life changed in 2009.
Rob was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2009. He travelled to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for specialist care and underwent surgery. Medical treatment and follow-up were central to that chapter of his life.
His public accounts describe the emotional weight of leaving his family for treatment, and his determination to return to the people and activities he loved.
Contemporary reporting on his treatmentThe discovery that stayed with him.
During his cancer fight, Rob discovered curcumin and made it part of his personal routine alongside specialist care. This was before plant ingredients were a familiar part of the health conversation around him.
Curcumin sparked a lasting interest in natural ingredients, including turmeric, green tea and black pepper. Years of reading and experimenting with his daily routine eventually led to Rob’s Choice: formulas with a clear purpose and every amount stated.
Personal experience and medical evidence.
Rob received specialist cancer treatment and medical follow-up. His interest in nutrition is a personal part of that story, not evidence of a cancer-treatment effect. Rob’s Choice supplements do not replace oncology care.
