CURCUMIN / INGREDIENT RESEARCH

Plaque and inflamed or bleeding gums

Potential benefit studied: Changes in plaque and gingivitis with local mouthwash

WHAT THE RESEARCH FOUND

Human trials found that curcumin and turmeric mouthwashes improved plaque and gum-inflammation measurements when used with oral hygiene.

WHO, WHAT & HOW LONG

A four-week trial assigned 150 young adults to 0.1% curcumin mouthwash, chlorhexidine or placebo mouthrinse. A separate 100-person comparison assessed turmeric and chlorhexidine mouthwashes over 21 days using plaque and gum-inflammation measures.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ROB’S CHOICE

These preparations acted directly in the mouth. Longevity is an oral supplement rather than a mouthwash, so this evidence does not establish gum benefits from its capsules or suitability for treating dental disease.

The doses above describe research, not personal dosing instructions. Ingredient studies do not diagnose symptoms or establish medical suitability. Discuss medicines, existing conditions and treatment decisions with an appropriate healthcare professional.
