Supporting research

Small human trial · Reviewed 9 September 2026

WHAT THE RESEARCH FOUND

In a placebo-controlled human trial, curcumin improved depression symptom scores during the second half of eight weeks of treatment.

WHO, WHAT & HOW LONG

Fifty-six people with major depressive disorder received 500 mg curcumin twice daily or placebo for eight weeks. Researchers tracked self-reported depression symptoms and anxiety measures rather than evaluating a general mood or wellness population.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ROB’S CHOICE

Matching a milligram amount does not mean matching the studied preparation or its effects. Longevity was not tested for depression, and its effectiveness or suitability for someone experiencing persistent low mood has not been established.

The doses above describe research, not personal dosing instructions. Ingredient studies do not diagnose symptoms or establish medical suitability. Discuss medicines, existing conditions and treatment decisions with an appropriate healthcare professional.
